Statement from the Chair of the Board of Governors of First Nations University of Canada

by ahnationtalk on October 6, 202543 Views

First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) is well governed and takes seriously our responsibility to the community, our students, and our partners. It is not appropriate that we comment on confidential and personnel matters contained in reports obtained by the CBC.

We confirm that the Board commissioned, reviewed, and considered the reports. We have carefully analyzed the reports, spent a tremendous amount of time and expertise in ensuring that we understand all aspects of the reports’ findings. As a Board, we did our due diligence in assessing the management and leadership of the President and her team by commissioning these reports.

We discussed them with President Ottmann and addressed the findings in the reports. After assessing the reports’ findings, the Board, by resolution, voted to retain President Ottmann and we continue to work with her in monitoring the leadership and priorities of FNUniv. The Board has complete confidence in President Ottmann and we stand behind her.

As Canada’s only fully dedicated First Nations University, our Board’s first priorities are to ensure that we, the President, and the entire leadership team are properly serving our students, our staff, and our faculty, in addition to the community, our partners in Saskatchewan, across Canada and globally.

We will not discuss or offer further comment on them.

Regards,

Sherry Saevil, Chair
First Nations University of Canada
