Chair says board would like to make Indigenous appointments official

Saskatoon’s Board of Police Commissioners is asking the city to make Indigenous appointments to the board compulsory.

In a letter to city council’s meeting on Monday, the police board asked the city to change its bylaw around appointments to require at least one Indigenous member on all future iterations of the committee.

“I think that we have to have a board that represents the population of Saskatoon,” said board chair Jo Custead.
