Premier Wall should intervene to help Round Lake flood victims
The Saskatchewan Green Party is pushing for Real Change by urging Premier Brad Wall to intervene on behalf of a Round Lake couple to ensure they get a fair settlement for their flood damaged home.
WireService.ca Media Release (07/09/2015) Regina, SK – Flooding ruined the home of David and Yvonne Cyr in July 2014. Two contractors have told the Cyrs they need $200,000 to restore their home to the way it was before the flooding. But so far, the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP) has only awarded the Cyrs about $70,000.
Party Leader Victor Lau says the Cyrs deserve a timely settlement. “PDAP is paying for an apartment for the Cyrs until September 11th, and then they are on their own, without the money they need to fix their home,” says Lau. “How will David and Yvonne Cyr be able to get on with leading productive lives without a home to live in?”
Lau hopes the Premier will order PDAP to make up the difference so the Cyrs can pay contractors to repair their home soon, and continue to pay for their apartment until the home is fixed.
Real Change means the people receive timely justice and are always dealt with fairly by those serving them in the Government of Saskatchewan.
