Seven-foot memorial is scheduled for unveiling in May.
REGINA — Regina is set to honour Saskatchewan Indigenous veterans with a new monument in Victoria Park. The project, led by the Regina Indigenous Veterans Monument Committee, will recognize the often-overlooked contributions of Indigenous soldiers to Canada’s military campaigns.
Maj. (retired) Brad Hrycyna, a committee spokesperson, said the memorial aims to highlight veterans’ sacrifices and their leadership in First Nations and Métis communities. The project also acknowledges systemic discrimination, as Indigenous veterans’ rights were only restored in 2002.
The seven-foot memorial is scheduled for unveiling in May 2025, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of WWII’s European conclusion. Fundraising is currently underway.
