Holy Trinity Catholic School Division (HTCSD) is dedicated to improving First Nations and Métis student engagement.

Director of Education and CEO Ward Strueby explained how they’re doing this.

“One thing that we did last year is we had a contract with our Knowledge Keeper Lyndon Linklater who comes to us from Saskatoon and he’s done excellent work inside of our classrooms discussing Truth and Reconciliation. We’ve also signed an agreement with our local Métis group here in Moose Jaw to be doing more work inside our schools as well,” he said. “Overall in our division right now, we’re focusing on students understanding the truth of what took place through residential schools in the past in order for us to move to a place with reconciliation. We’ll continue to be having events in our school division having our Knowledge Keeper present and talking in each of our schools.”

Strueby says the division has also purchased a teepee that will be set up at each of their schools in the new year with their Knowledge Keeper giving lessons on how to set it up and sharing the story behind the teepee.
