Groundbreaking of the New Band Office in Patuanak
October 10, 2024
Today, we celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Band Office in Patuanak, Saskatchewan — a significant milestone in the English River First Nation Community Infrastructure Development Project. This new office, along with improvements to existing facilities, marks a major step forward in supporting the growth and prosperity of our Community.
A Modern Band Office for ERFN
The new Band Office will be a 15,717-square-foot facility designed to meet the administrative needs of ERFN. It will house 41 desks across two floors, offering meeting and Community gatherings spaces. Built with a modular approach, the office is being constructed off-site by our partner, 3twenty Modular, in Saskatoon before being transported and assembled in Patuanak. This approach ensures a quicker, more efficient construction process as well as provides significant cost savings compared to traditional building techniques.
Tron Construction & Mining is overseeing the entire project, ensuring smooth coordination between partners, including 3twenty Modular, Neetah Construction, and Aurora Renewables. The modular construction method also allows for potential future expansions as the needs of the Community grow.
Upgrading the Gas Station and Store
In addition to the new Band Office, we will also enhance the existing gas station and convenience store in Patuanak. These upgrades will provide improved services and support new business opportunities, ensuring the facilities remain a central resource for residents. The gas station and store improvements are part of a broader vision to create a vibrant and self-sufficient hub for ERFN.
Creating Local Opportunities
A key focus of this project is creating employment opportunities for ERFN Members. By hiring locally, we not only support the economic development of the Community but also ensure that the benefits of this project reach those who live here. From construction support to machinery operation, local workers are contributing at every stage. This keeps jobs within the Community and reduces the need for outside labour, leading to greater efficiency and stability for ERFN members.
Sustainable Solutions for the Future
Aurora Renewables, part of the Des Nedhe Group, is bringing sustainable energy solutions to the project. The new Band Office will include solar panels and battery storage, providing a reliable power source and reducing long-term energy costs. High-efficiency heat pumps and triple-glazed windows will also help keep the office comfortable year-round, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
A Collaborative Effort
Tron Construction leads the charge as the construction manager, while Neetah Construction supports with civil works expertise. Creative Fire, our communications firm, ensures the ERFN Community stays informed about project developments and milestones like today’s groundbreaking. This collaboration among Des Nedhe Group companies and 3twenty Modular demonstrates the strength of working together to achieve a common goal.
