FSIN calling for end to crown land auctions – 620 CKRM

The FSIN is once again calling on the provincial government to stop selling off crown land.
Chief Bobby Cameron wants the provincial government to engage in discussions with the rightful owners of the land, first nations.
The provincial government has been selling land parcels through on line auctions since 2016, and the FSIN says the government has been selling the land without any consultation from first nations since 2008.
“Government Relations Minister Don McMorris claims that no one wants to go to court over the sale of Crown lands, yet four First Nations are in court regarding the province’s crown land sales.” Chief Bobby Cameron said in a statement. “FSIN has been calling for a moratorium since they introduced their online auction sales of crown lands in 2016. It’s currently held up in the courts because the province continues to engage in its stalling tactics, while the First Nations’ land base on which we exercise our inherent and Treaty rights is getting smaller and smaller.
