Languages in Our Lands Week begins on Monday, and will focus a day on each of the five languages spoken by File Hills nations.
The File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council has declared its inaugural Languages in Our Lands Week to begin Monday, to recognize the importance of celebrating and nurturing Indigenous languages.
Organized with significant support from the FHQTC leadership and the Youth Advisory Council within the Lands, Resources, Environment and Stewardship (FHQTC-LRES) department, the celebratory week wants to see people acknowledge the connection between language and land, and its vital role in cultural vibrancy.
The week will focus on the five languages spoken by the 11 member nations within FHQTC — Cree, Lakota, Nakoda, Saulteaux and Dakota — with a spotlight on one each day between May 8-12.
