by ahnationtalk on October 21, 2020298 Views

The City of Regina is honoured to host its 8th celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. When COVID-19 restrictions delayed the event planned for June in Victoria Park, an alternate plan to celebrate virtually took shape.

2020 is the year of the Métis, and to honour the memory of Louis Riel the celebration will occur on his birthday, October 22. This Thursday, watch the live-streamed event on the Regina National Indigenous Peoples DayOpens in new window Facebook page. Our community will connect, while apart, to learn more about the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples in Canada.

Performances start at 10 a.m. with an introduction by Andrea Menard. Program details on timing of the entertainment, greetings and cultural displays are posted to FacebookOpens in new window. Attendees can expect to see world-class performers, hear from community members and feel inspired to learn more about Indigenous traditions.

This important community event is hosted in partnership with Regina Police Service, Campion College, Regina Public Library, and Farm Credit Canada.
