November 28, 2024
Dr. Bettina Schneider, FNUniv Associate Professor in the Business & Public Administration Program, has officially released the 2nd edition of “Financial Empowerment: Personal Finance for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous People,” available online. The eBook launch, organized by the UofR Open Education and Publishing Program, took place via Zoom on November 28, 2024. The release is in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month.
Dr. Schneider, in collaboration with OEP, published the 2nd Edition of the open access text, Financial Empowerment: Personal Finance for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous People. The text is designed to provide students with the financial literacy knowledge and skills necessary to make good financial decisions. The 2nd edition of Financial Empowerment: Personal Finance for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous People attempts to speak to the varied backgrounds, knowledge systems, values, and experiences of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people by providing a variety of perspectives on and examples related to personal finance and financial planning from Elders, Indigenous Nations and leaders, Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, various levels of government, the Canadian financial system, and the economy. The open textbook represents one small effort to make personal finance more relevant to Indigenous students in Canada, and to teach non-Indigenous students about Indigenous histories, perspectives, and realities.
The textbook is available to read online and open to all students and the general public. https://opentextbooks.uregina.ca/financialempowermentsecond/
