Justice Coordinator
Under the supervision of the Director of Health for Thunderchild First Nation (TCFN), the Justice Coordinator will carry out the requirements of the community justice development plan, comply with existing funding agreements and provide other justice related services to the members of TCFN.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess:
- Post-secondary education in the form of a diploma or degree in justice related field;
- Certified as a trained Mediator or willing to take the training / refresher;
- Valid Driver’s License, reliable vehicle and willingness to travel and work flexible hours
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Work experience in a First Nation community as well as the ability to speak Cree would be an asset
- Knowledge of justice system(s) federally, provincially, and at the Band level (traditional)
- Ability to establish rapport with the clients and stakeholders in the justice system
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality relating to client matters
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent writing skills
- Ability to work independently, and as a team player with internal and external agencies
Primary Responsibilities of Justice Coordinator:
- Plan, deliver and monitor the TCFN Community Justice Program as per the funding guidelines and based upon community needs
- Organize, facilitate and deliver Alternative Measures programs, including Mediations and Crisis
- Plan and implement community development and community education programs regarding preventative programming
- Facilitate an Interagency Committee and approach within the community and with off-reserve services
- Research and write letters and reports respecting client services and supports for individuals involved with the justice system
- Develop funding opportunities and manage funding agreements
- Report on Justice activities as required by funding agreement to the Director of Health
- Manage budget and resources appropriately
