This course will critically explore both contemporary and historical examples of criminal justice controversies in Canada. Criminological issues often engender competing arguments including private, public and political debate. Controversies will be fully explored providing for an analysis of competing perspectives and their implications for society. Topics may include: criminalization of prostitution, drugs, gambling, corporate and environmental crime; powers of border security and police; the death penalty, gun control, and racial profiling.
Qualifications – Required: Master’s Degree
Qualifications – Other: MA in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a cognate discipline (e.g. sociology/psychology) with a focus on crime or deviance; PhD preferred. Work experience in the field is an asset, as is prior teaching experience. (MEd/EdD will not be considered to meet the minimum educational requirement).

All job postings will be for in-person teaching, unless they are indicated “OC” for Online Course or “Remote” for remote teaching. OC and Remote teaching is defined below.
Courses created specifically for online instruction have been collaboratively designed by a content expert (normally a faculty member) and an instructional designer and digital media and educational technology specialists. Online course development is guided by instructional design strategies and makes use of pedagogically led technology. Online courses are intentionally developed for instructors and students to be separated by space (location) and/or time (often both).
Remote instruction, as the term is used here, uses technology-enabled tools and software to facilitate course delivery when in-person instruction is not possible in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Remote” instruction is not directly comparable to “online course” instruction. The difference is not in the quality of the content, but in the design of content delivery.
In-person fall teaching will be supported by classroom safety and hygiene protocols aligned with public health guidelines in effect at the time and will adhere to any COVID-19 related university policies including the COVID-19 face covering policy.
