Special day for Aboriginal war veterans – APTN

A ceremony Wednesday marked the sacrifice of hundreds of Indigenous veterans from Manitoba – as well as thousands across Canada.

It was National Aboriginal Veterans Day.

“A lot of our Metis people and our First Nations people, when they came back from the wars, they got nothing,” said Sgt. Devin Beaudry of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

“To be able to celebrate it on its separate day from everything else in Canada is an honour.”

Beaudry was one of more than a hundred people who gathered in Winnipeg to pay their respects.

Various ceremonies took place across the nation.
