REGINA _ Saskatchewan’s Provincial Capital Commission is calling on Regina police to enforce the law and remove a growing number of teepees set up in protest outside the legislature.

Executive Director Carrie Ross says it’s disappointing that last minute changes need to be made to Canada Day celebrations in the popular park surrounding the provincial building.

The Justice for Our Stolen Children camp was set up to protest racial injustice and the disproportionate number of Indigenous children apprehended by child-welfare workers.

The camp started in late February and was dismantled last week before being set back up on Friday.

A spokeswoman with Regina police says she wants to speak with Chief Evan Bray before commenting on the commission’s request.

Protester Robyn Pitawanakwat says that the camp has a meeting with the provincial government on July 2 in the town of Fort Qu’Appelle.
