RCMP charge man in 8 hour standoff at home on Saskatchewan First Nation – CP

LOON LAKE, Sask. _ A man has been charged in a lengthy standoff with police on a Saskatchewan First Nation.

On May 12, a man went in to a residence on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation with a firearm.

Mounties surrounded the home and as a precaution, two schools on the First Nation went into hold and secure.

When the standoff continued past the end of the school day, arrangements were made to safely remove all the children and get them home.

The standoff ended about eight hours later.

Corey Meesto, who is 27, of Loon Lake, is to appear in court in Loon Lake on May 25 on several charges, including assaulting a police officer with a weapon , resisting arrest, and several firearm charges.
