037 – (MMIW-Inquiry)

MP3 Audio:

UNDATED. x–25s. A lawyer has resigned from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. It’s another kick for an inquiry plagued by chronic delays, staff turnover and complaints from families about disorganization. Canadian Press reporter Karen Rebot (REE’-boh) says Metis lawyer Breen Ouellette, who has worked as a commission counsel out of Vancouver, stepped down June 21st, saying he cannot remain part of a process he alleges “is speeding towards failure.” (“..the inquiry’s mandate.”) (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Breen is also asking the inquiry’s commissioners to allow him to fully disclose the reasons behind his resignation, which he says as a lawyer, he cannot do.
