Métis Nation-Saskatchewan Removes Housing Minister

November 1, 2018 – Following a Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) Human Resources Standing Committee meeting, President Glen McCallum has removed Minister Derek Langan from the Housing portfolio. Mr. Langan was removed from his position as a result of philosophical differences between the President and the former minister as to the proper administration of Metis Nation-Saskatchewan housing funds. The position will not be filled until such time that the President recommends a new Minister and it is ratified by the Provincial Métis Council.

As MN-S continues to rebuild its government after years of instability, it is assessing protocols and ethical standards required to ensure good governance for the long-term health of the Nation. This is an ongoing process to ensure decisions are made for the collective interest of the citizens of MN-S in a responsible manner based on fact and without political agenda.

“This was a very difficult decision to make and it was only after MN-S was notified by the federal government, that they had been contacted by a third party who expressed financial concerns, did we meet to discuss the issue. I take very seriously the tenets of good governance and adhere to the principles of transparency and accountability,” stated President Glen McCallum.
