Heroes recognized at Government House in Regina – 20 CKRM

Clark Whitecalf is receiving more recognition for his bravery on the night of August 31st, 2015.

That night he went into a burning building multiple times attempting to save an 18 year-old girl who was inside.

Whitecalf and his wife were teaching their daughter to drive on the Sweetgrass First Nation near North Battleford and says he remembers the night well.

“My wife and I were teaching our daughter how to drive. She was going for her learners’ licence,” Whitecalf said after Tuesday’s ceremony at Government House in Regina. “I was so focussed on the road, I didn’t notice the house on fire. We turned around and pulled up to the house, and sure enough, the house was on fire. The family truck was there and I knew right there, someone was in the house.
