The Gabriel Dumont Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research (GDI) invites applications for the following:

MEMBER, GDI BOARD OF GOVERNORS
WESTERN REGION III (Regina, Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Swift Current, Maple Creek areas)

Overview: The GDI Board of Governors has representation from each of the 12 Métis Nation—Saskatchewan (MNS) Regions. The MNS Minister of Education sits as the Chairperson. All Board appointments are for three years. Employees of affiliated organizations of the MNS are not permitted to sit on the GDI Board of Governors.

Responsibilities: The Board of Governors oversees GDI and is responsible for its operation and governance, including: to adopt policies for the effective operation of GDI; to formulate a strategic plan and to oversee its implementation; to approve annual budgets, audits and programs; to function as ambassadors for GDI; to represent GDI to all levels of government, persons of Métis ancestry and to the public generally; and to appoint an Executive Director to be directly responsible for implementation of policy and the day-to-day management and operations of GDI.

Qualifications: All appointments to the Board must be of Métis ancestry with knowledge of the cultural, historical and social circumstances of Saskatchewan Métis. Some of the preferred skill and training areas for Board members include finance and administration; business; human resources; law; and communications. Prospective GDI Board members are required to submit a criminal record check.

Process: Candidates can apply to GDI or the MNS region. All applications will be considered by the appropriate MNS region. The MNS region then submits the name of their selected representative forwarded from a duly called and administered regional council meeting. The name of the new board member is then sent to the PMC for ratification. Finally, the name is forwarded to the Minister of Advanced Education. More information available at www.gdins.org.
