The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations want’s the public and the province to know that First Nations communities are prepared to take over the care of children in the Social Welfare system.

Earlier this week, just after Premier Scott Moe apologized on behalf of Saskatchewan for the Sixties Scoop, the FSIN called for an immediate moratorium on provincial adoptions of First Nations children into non-First Nations homes.

Vice Chief David Pratt, said they have heard comments questioning the ability of First Nations communities to take control over and jurisdiction of their children, his answer is that they have been preparing for that and are ready.

He adds the there are already 17 delegated Indian Child Family Service agencies in the province, so he believes it is time to turn over the rest of the responsibility to First Nations people.
