Former NHLer’s donation to go to bursaries for women – 980 CJME
September 19, 2018
On Tuesday, former NHL player and coach, Ted Nolan, gave a large cheque to the First Nations University of Canada (FNUC) and said he would not be the man he is if it weren’t for his mother.
His foundation has given $75,000 to the university to be used for bursaries for Indigenous women. It will be named for his mother, Rose Nolan.
“Collectively, we need to support our First Nations women to ensure they get the opportunities they rightly deserve so they can become tomorrow’s leaders,” said Nolan in a news release.
The $5,000 bursary will be awarded starting in the 2019-2020 school year, to women who are members of a First Nation in Canada who have completed one year of full-time study already.
