City of Saskatoon: Family Fun February – Activities, events, and promotions for youth and families!

February school break makes for a wonderful time to enjoy winter activities and create family memories.  If you’re planning a staycation while your kids are home from school, you’re in luck because the City has a variety of free winter activities and events happening this February.

Winter Play Program

For ages 2 to 12.  Drop in at the following rec units between 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, February 9 to Saturday, March 9 for winter games and activities, including snow carving, snow baseball, snow golf, powder-puff football, tug of war, penguin races, snow painting, freeze tag, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, and much more!

  • Greystone Heights Rec Unit, 2711 Main Street
  • Holliston Rec Unit, 1151 Louise Avenue
  • Westmount Rec Unit, 306 Avenue L North
  • Massey Place Rec Unit, 3110 Massey Place

There is a heated warm-up unit at each location.  Activities will be cancelled if the temperature reaches -25°C or below with the windchill.

Learn to Skate Program
For ages 2 to 12 (children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult or responsible caregiver).  Programs are available on Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, February 9 to Saturday, March 9.  Participants must bring their own skates and Canadian Standards Association-approved winter helmets to the following outdoor rinks:

  • Lawson Heights, 748 Redberry Road
    Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Holliston, 1151 Louise Avenue
    Saturdays, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Montgomery, 3229 Caen Street
    Sundays, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Greystone Heights, 2711 Main Street
    Sundays, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Massey Place, 3110 Massey Place
    Sundays, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Activities will be cancelled due to adverse ice conditions or if the temperature reaches ‑25°C or below with the windchill.

February Break Camp (Registered Program)
For ages 10 to 14.  Have fun and learn new sports from qualified instructors.  February Break Camp will be held at the Cosmo Civic Centre, 3130 Laurier Drive.

Family Day Skate Event
Monday, February 18, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyone welcome!  Bring your skates and safety gear and come down for an afternoon of skating and winter fun, or choose to attend the indoor event!

  • Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval* – Dudley Street and Avenue R South.
    Skating and winter games.
    (*Skating event at the Clarence Downey Speed Skating Oval will be cancelled if the temperature reaches -25°C or below with the windchill.)
  • Cosmo Civic Centre – 3130 Laurier Drive
    Stay warm inside the Cosmo gym with tipi teachings and Indigenous hand games presented by Saskatoon Indian & Métis Friendship Centre.

Leisure Centres

If you’re looking for an activity to do on your own time, try out one of the six Leisure Centres where you can enjoy swimming, waterslides, court sports, and more.  Or try one of the indoor rinks for public skating and Parent and Tot skating.  Facility schedules are available online at saskatoon.ca/dropinonline.  Bonus swimming and skating are added during the February school break!
